In order to implement the spirit of the first Sun Yat-sen University informatization of education and teaching conference, to coordinate with launching of the plan—‘information technology changes teaching and learning’, to encourage more teachers to participate in teaching informatization, under the initiatives of many teachers, the informatization forum of SYSU teachers was set up on Jan 6th, 2012 The first inaugurating meeting and symposium was held in the South Campus, with more than 20 teachers from various disciplines invited to the meeting.

Participating teachers had heated discussions on the objectives of the SYSU teachers forum of informatization--how to make better use of information technology to promote the teaching and learning of their disciplines. They also made valuable suggestions and comments on how to run the forum, how should teacher be trained with educational information and how to run micro-magazine. It was agreed that what discipline faculty need is not the latest and most fashionable technology, but appropriate technology which is easy to use to meet the learning needs of teaching and learning. Assistant Director of Center of Network and Information Technology Dao Yan said, the network center is a server of SYSU teaching informatization, and as long as discipline faculty demands, the center will provide more technical support and service, and will actively promote teachers’ development in teaching informatization as well as offer project approval and some financial support.

As the first symposium of the forum, the conference discussed with the theme of "Learning at the Internet Age". Mr. Wang Zhuli emphatically introduced three aspects of his study--the learning challenges faced at the Internet age, how to deal with challenges and how to innovate with knowledge, which had won thunderous applauses and strong resonance among the present teachers. It is hoped that Forum will hold more seminars to promote sharing and exchange among teachers.

The conference elected Dao Yan as Secretary General of the Forum, Institute of Modern Educational Technology Wang Zhuli, Zhongshan Medical College Wang Xuelan, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Qu Junxiong, School of Communication and Design Wu Bolinand Sub-center of Educational Technology Forum Huang Hai as the Deputy Secretaries General.
