It is known that gene mutation is the principal cause of human diseases, but how the mutations are regulated in the cell is still under tireless exploration by scientists. Recently, the research team led by young professor, He Xionglei, from School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, has made significant progress in how chromatin structure regulates DNA mutations. On March 9th, their research findings were published in Science, the world's leading journal of original research.

He Xionglei, 35 years old, is a young scholar from School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University. In 2007, after obtaining his doctor's degree from the University of Michigan, he was recruited by his alma mater as a member of "Hundred Talents Project" and was given his title of professor directly by SYSU President Huang Daren, who makes use of his "Presidential Discretionary Power". Then, He Xionglei, at the age of 30, became one of the youngest professors and doctoral tutors in the history of Sun Yat-sen University.
