Recently, Professor Michele V. Cloonan, Editor-in-Chief of the international academic journal Preservation, Digital Technology & Culture (PDT&C) and Dean of Graduate School of Library & Information Science, Simmons College, USA, sent a letter to Professor Cheng Huanwen at School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University and congratulated him on being elected as a member of the new editorial board of PDT&C.

PDT&C Quarterly, founded in 1972 and published by the internationally renowned publisher De Gruyter Saur with a history of more than 260 years, is formerly known as Microform & Digitization Review: Preservation and Access Issues for Cultural Heritage Institutions. PDT&C, an international refereed journal of high scholarly standing in the field of cultural heritage preservation, devotes itself to the research on digitizing preservation issues for libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural heritage institutions, and aims to provide global cultural heritage preservation institutions with a wide variety of perspectives of theory and practice, including technological, social, economic, political, and the user. From the spring of 2013 on, the journal will use the new title PDT&C and replace its editor-in-chief and editorial board. The new editorial board consists of 17 experts, including 7 from the US, 3 from Australia, 1 from Egypt, 1 from China, 1 from the UK, 1 from New Zealand, 1 from Argentina, 1 from Canada, and 1 from Denmark. Professor Cheng Huanwen is the only editorial board member from Asia, and also the first Chinese editorial board member ever since its foundation.

Professor Cheng Huanwen is a scholar with broad international influence in China’s library field, and he previously served as an editorial board member of the famous American library journal Library Quarterly, and Editor-in-Chief of Library Management China. Over the past decade, Professor Cheng has led the research team to carry out international cooperation, training, research and practical work in the restoration and preservation of Chinese and western ancient books, which enabled Sun Yat-sen University Libraries to be listed by the Ministry of Culture as one of China’s 12 National Ancient Books Restoration Centers in 2009, following the classification of Sun Yat-sen University Libraries by the State Council in 2008 as the first batch of National Key Preservation Units of Ancient Books, and helps Sun Yat-sen University Libraries become a unique national restoration center for ancient books with broad international influence among university libraries in China.
