On December 5th, the Launch Ceremony of the “School of Engineering of Sun Yat-sen University-Zhixin High School Yuanpei Program” was held in the Engineering School Building on East Campus. 35 teachers and students headed by He Yong, Principal of Zhixin High School; Professor Jiang Qing, Dean of School of Engineering; Yin Xiaochuan, Deputy Director of University Dean’s Office; Associate Professor Cai Ming and Associate Professor Zhang Chao, Assistants to the Dean of School of Engineering; teachers, postgraduates and undergraduates attended the meeting.

As the person chiefly in charge of this program, Cai Ming, Assistant to the Dean, introduced the background of Yuanpei Program at the meeting. Deputy Director Yin Xiaochuan, Principal He Yong, and Dean Jiang Qing delivered a speech respectively. Deputy Director Yin Xiaochuan gave an introduction to the scientific research and the university student innovation training program in SYSU. Principal He Yong hoped that this program could give high school students in Guangdong Province a direct access to doing scientific research in the university. Dean Jiang Qing shared his experience of scientific research innovation with teachers and students and encouraged the students to develop innovative thinking and life style. Besides, he pointed out explicitly that “Yuanpei Program” was not only aimed to enhance the abilities of high school students, but also embodied the courage of SYSU to undertake social responsibilities.
It is learned that the “School of Engineering of Sun Yat-sen University-Zhixin High School Yuanpei Program” is one of the characteristic course projects in regular high schools in Guangzhou. The program is designed to cultivate excellent talents with a solid foundation, righteous conduct, independent personality, broad horizon and sustainable development. It also intends to take the group mode of “supervisors + postgraduates + undergraduates + high school students”. Guided by teachers from School of Engineering, the postgraduates, undergraduates and students from Zhixin High School will form a team to conduct scientific research. The purpose of the program is to help high school students develop scientific innovative thinking and corresponding innovative abilities, thus broadening the students’ horizons and promoting their growth and development.
