Recently, SYSU-CMU Joint Institute of Engineering (JIE) held talks on admissions of its double-degree graduate program on the East Campus and South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). The two talks were presented respectively by Prof. Wenjun Li, Assistant President and JIE Co-director of SYSU; and Prof. Jimmy Zhu, ABB Professor and JIE Co-director of Carnegie Mellon University. Prof. Li and Prof. Zhu introduced JIE’s history, disciplinary planning, faculty and double-degree program to students and teachers present.

Though most senior students are now out for internship, the talks still managed to attract a large number of students from School of Information Science and Technology, School of Software, School of Information Management, School of Physics and Engineering, and even from other universities. Many of them showed keen interests towards JIE’s program for its collaborative pattern and international training mode. Some of them even expressed intention to further their study in JIE, a place where world-class engineering education at the “doorstep” is possible.

SYSU-CMU Joint Institute of Engineering is a collaborative effort between Sun Yat-sen University and the world-renowned Carnegie Mellon University. The Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China officially approved it in November 2012.

JIE acts as collaboration between the two renowned universities to nurture a passionate and collaborative global community and network of students, faculty and professionals working toward advancing the field of engineering through education and research in China and the world.

At present, JIE is recruiting 80 graduate students for its 2014 double-degree master program.
