The 2nd School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) Alumni Association Council Meeting cum the Celebration Meeting of the 90th Anniversary of Chemistry Teaching and Research at SYSU & the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of SCCE was held in Swasey Hall on the morning of November 1, 2014. Prof. Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Academician Su Qiang, Academician Ji Liangnian, Prof. Zhang Zhanxia, Prof. Zeng Hanmin, Prof. Xu Jiarui, Prof. Zeng Longmei and Prof. Kang Beisheng, Honorary Presidents of SCCE Alumni Association; Mr. Fang Chaogui, President of SCCE Alumni Association; Ms. Li Hanrong, Secretary General of SYSU Alumni Association; members of SCCE Alumni Association Council; SCCE leadership and faculty members; a total of about 250 people attended the meeting.

Prof. Mao Zongwan, Dean of SCCE, gave a report on the past, present and future of the School. He put forward the development plan in the next 3-5 years: build 1-2 national research platform, and the academic influence of chemistry will enter global top 50.

At the meeting, the donation ceremonies of “Su Qiang Scholarship”, "Ji Liangnian Scholarship”, "87 Teaching Award”, "Teaching Excellence Award” and “Physical Chemistry Scholarship and Teaching Award” were held in turn.


Prof. Su Qiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, donated 1,000, 000 yuan to set up “Su Qiang Scholarship” for outstanding students in rare earth research. Prof. Ji Liangnian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, donated 500, 000 yuan to set up “Ji Liangnian Scholarship” to encourage students in interdisciplinary research.

Deputy Secretary Li Ping expressed congratulations and gratitude to SCCE alumni, faculty and students, and praised the achievements of the School. Ms. Gu Xiaohong, Executive Vice President of SCCE Alumni Association and Secretary of SCCE, reported on the work of the 1st SCCE Alumni Association Council.   

The 2nd SCCE Alumni Association Council was elected with 10 alumni including Academician Su Qiang as honorary presidents, 13 alumni including Mrs. Chan Lau Sau Yuen as honorary members, and alumnus Fang Chaogui as president.

At the suggestion of the executive council of SCCE Alumni Association, the School organized the compilation and printing of four commemorative books (Chemistry at Sun Yat-sen University, Chemistry Time, Alumni Directory, and Interviews with Students and Alumni) with the great support from faculty members, students and alumni.
