On the morning of December 6, 2014, Prof. Wah Chiu, member of United States National Academy of Sciences, gave a lecture entitled "Seeing Viruses Inside and Outside a Cell” at SYSU International Masters Forum. The forum was jointly organized by Office of International Cooperation & Exchange and School of Life Sciences of SYSU and undertaken by Student Union of School of Life Sciences. Dr. Kazuyoshi Murata from National Institute for Physiological Sciences of Japan, Dr. Wilson Lau from The University of Hong Kong, and faculty and students from SYSU attended the forum.

At the forum, Prof. Wah Chiu gave the audiences a brilliant talk and then provided detailed information at the Q&A part. He indicated that Cryo-EM can resolve various protein components of a virus regardless of their symmetry. The lecture was warmly welcomed by SYSU faculty and students.

Prof. Wah Chiu works in Baylor College of Medicine with Biotechnology and Molecular department, Molecular Physiology department and Biophysics department. He is an editor of Quarterly Reviews of Biophysics and Structure. His studies aim to combine physical theory, mathematic theory and biotechnology technics to determine atomic model of the coat proteins of a virus.
