Recently, Fang Fang, a voluntary Chinese teacher from School of Chinese as a Second Language (SCSL) of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), was awarded as the “Advanced Teacher of Opole University of Technology” in Poland. Prof. Marek Tukiendorf, Rector of Opole University of Technology, presented her with the certificate.

Fang Fang is a student of the program of “Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages” at SCSL. She was assigned as a voluntary Chinese teacher in the Confucius Institute in Opole at Opole University of Technology by Hanban in September of 2013. In the summer of 2014, owing to her outstanding performance, Fang Fang got approval to stay on for a second term, which is the first case since the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Opole in 2008.

In her first term as a voluntary Chinese teacher, Fang Fang offered Chinese courses to students from Opole University of Technology, as well as Chinese classes to students interested in Chinese language and culture from primary and secondary schools. Meanwhile, she participated in various events to promote Chinese culture, such as the annual Science and Technology Festival of Opole University of Technology, Agriculture Exhibition, and Promotion Day of universities in Opole province. In May of 2014, Confucius Institute in Opole organized the preliminaries of the 13th “Chinese Bridge” competition in Poland. Fang Fang served as the host of the competition. Her performance won high praise from audience and judges, including the head of Education Department of Chinese Embassy in Poland. At the end of 2014, she set up the first intensive course of HSK in Confucius Institute in Opole, aiming to improve students’ Chinese language proficiency.

8 teachers from over 300 full-time faculty members were selected as the “Advanced Teacher of Opole University of Technology” this year. Fang Fang’s winning the award was also an acknowledgment of the contribution of the Confucius Institute in Opole to promoting bilateral cultural exchange between China and Poland.
