Authorized by Educational Management Board of Association of China Higher Medical Education and hosted by Sun Yat-sen University, the 2nd China Higher Medical Education Seminar & Sino-U.S. Medical Education Conference took place in Guangzhou during December 3rd and 5th. People attending the conference include Wang Qiming, Director of Bureau of Agriculture, Forestry and medicine, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Guo Li, Executive Vice Secretary – General of Committee of Medical Education, Association of China Higher Medical Education, Lu Yinqing, Wang Tinghuai, Vice Chairman of Educational Management Board, Association of China Higher Medical Education, Ma Jianhui, Secretary General, Li Xiaolu, inspector of Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Xu Qingfeng, Director of Bureau of Science and Education, Department of Health, SYSU President Huang Daren, Vice President Li Mengfeng, Chen Chunsheng, as well as Xiao Haipeng, Director of Dean’s Office of Medical Education, Sun Yat-sen University, etc.

President Huang made a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, greeting all the leaders and medical education experts present at the meeting, on behalf of SunYat-senUniversity. After that, President Huang introduced the general situation of SYSU’S medical education and the target location of medical talents cultivation, emphasizing not only the spirit of pursuit of excellence and dedication but also the ability of solving clinic problems in medical talents cultivation. President Huang also pointed out the importance of the dynamic integration of basic and clinic medicine and believed it an eternal topic in medical education. Besides, President Huang particularly indicated that medical education should not only lay stress on professional knowledge, skills and scientific spirit but also pay attention to humanistic aptitude and sound personality. He expected that the deans of medical school can give active consideration for a suitable curriculum of general education. Finally, President Huang introduced SYSU’S general education reform in recent years.

Director Wang Qiming circulated the latest trend of medical education reform and development in the “twelfth five-year” by Bureau of Agriculture, forestry and medicine, Ministry of Education. He listed some trains of thinking on how to make flexible adjustments and some reform measures in order to adapt to the new health care system. Secretary-General Ma Jianhui, Inspector Li Xiaolu and Director Xu Qingfeng also delivered a speech at the ceremony respectively.

The meeting, concentrating on “International medical education development and curriculum reform trend, medical talents training model, teaching method reform, and medical education and administration”, invited lots of medical education experts home and abroad to give keynote speech and carry out interactive communication. The keynote speeches made by Professor Wang Tinghuai from SYSU (Persist in the principle of early, correct, strict and solid in cultivating eligible medical talents), Professor Lu Yinqing from Shanghai Medical School, Fudan University (Research and practice on general education of medical students-experience from Shanghai Medical School, Fudan University), Professor Wan Xuehong from Huaxi Clinic Medical College, Sichuan University (Facing future challenge, exploit integrated concept to initiate medical education reform-Research and Practice on Progressive Teaching System in Clinical Medicine , and Professor Kong Weijia from Tongji Medical School of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Research and Practice on Progressive Teaching System in Clinical Medicine), as well as the subjective reports made by overseas famous experts from Indiana University of American, University of Michigan, Linkoping University of Sweden, etc. received high praise and attracted extensive attention and positive response. The representatives present at the meeting carried out heated group discussion on different topics.

Undoubtedly, the seminar provided a great communication and learning platform for medical educational administrators home and abroad. It shared and explained new concept, new developing trend and new administrative strategy of medical education. Besides, the seminar synthesized all beneficial academic ideas in educational management home and abroad, which can promote the internationalization of China’s education. Medical education in China need not only to absorb foreign education concept and teaching method, but also to strengthen international communication and cooperation, so as to show the strength China’s medical education and expand the influence of China’s medical education in the world.

Over 170 experts and responsible people from teaching management departments of more than 40 universities attended the seminar.
