Being one the three hospitals authorized by the Ministry of Health to build a “national medical team”, the 1st affiliated hospital of SYSU held the starting ceremony for the first team to be sent out on medical tours to Guangxi and Guizhou. Lei Yulan, the vice-governor attended the ceremony and presented a flag to them.

Wang Shenming, the director of the 1st affiliated hospital of SYSU, said that this year the Ministry of Health has assigned Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University, and the 1st Affiliated Hospital of SYSU to build medical teams. Those medical teams will go in-depth into the former revolutionary base areas, areas inhabited by minority nationalities, remote and border areas and poverty-stricken areas of 18 provinces, such as Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Szechwan, Yunnan and Sinkiang, in the capacity of “national teams” for the first time, for six months of medical tours, technical guidance and personnel training. This will serve as a specific measure to deepen the reform of public hospitals and give a full play to the radiating and exemplary role of the high-quality medical resources in the cities.
