During the SARS outbreak in 2003, 20 doctors and nurses in The Third Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yet-san University were infected with SARS when they gave treatment to patients. Among them, Doctor Deng Lianxian from the Infectious Disease Department sacrificed his life. The other 19 doctors and nurses recovered from SARS and none of them suffered from the osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). In 2010, seven years after the SARS period, Xu Jian, Deputy Director of the Office of The Third Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yet-san University, took up his camera to record the life of 16 doctors and nurses who used to be infected with SARS. Now, these 16 medical workers are still working in the front line in the hospital.
