The Hospital Work Conference of Sun Yat-sen University was held on North Campus on April 3. Xu Ningsheng, President of Sun Yat-sen University; Zhang Zongjiu, Director of Department of Medical Service Supervision of National Health and Family Planning Commission; Liao Xinbo, Deputy Director-General of Department of Health of Guangdong Province; and Tang Xiaoping, Deputy Director of Bureau of Health of Guangzhou Municipality, attended the conference. The conference was presided over by Wang Jianping, Executive Vice President of Sun Yar-sen University.

President Xu Ningsheng fully affirmed the affiliated hospitals’ contribution to promoting the development of SYSU’s medical cause. He pointed out that the affiliated hospitals should pay high attention to the construction of national key clinical specialties, promote the role of medical services in the University’s function of serving society, push forward the internationalization of medical sciences, implement the work of talent introduction and cultivation, and make overall planning and reasonable deployment of high-end talent cultivation, discipline construction and research platform construction. President Xu Ningsheng said that currently the affiliated hospitals maintain a good momentum of development, and he hoped that everyone can make persistent efforts to push the University’s medical and health undertakings to a new stage.

Deputy Director-General Liao Xinbo expressed his thanks to the cadres and staff of SYSU’s medical system for their outstanding contribution to the development of Guangdong’s medical and health undertakings. He also showed his sincere gratitude to National Health and Family Planning Commission’s support and care for the medical and health systems of Guangdong Province and Sun Yat-sen University. He hoped that SYSU’s affiliated hospitals can keep their own characteristics, achieve greater results, and make greater contribution to Guangdong’s development.

On behalf of the Bureau of Health of Guangzhou Municipality, Deputy Director Tang Xiaoping thanked SYSU’s medical system for its contribution in the past year, and extended his sincere greetings to all the medical workers at SYSU. He said that since Guangzhou Municipal Government signed a city-university strategic cooperation agreement with SYSU in 2007, both sides have carried out multilevel cooperation projects in the fields of communication, bioresearch and medical treatment. Henceforth, Guangzhou and SYSU will continue to expand areas of collaboration and further strengthen cooperation in key projects.

Director Zhang Zongjiu delivered a special report entitled “Be Cautious with Medical Treatment”. He focused on the concept of “being vigilant about medical quality”, and elaborately interpreted the significance of being cautious with medical treatment from the perspectives of the precautions, foundations, measures and methods of medical quality, and the strategies and key points for improving medical quality.

Executive Vice President Wang Jianping delivered a work report entitled “See the Current Situation Clearly and Seek Development” at the conference. He summarized the work of SYSU’s affiliated hospitals in the past year, pointed out the existing advantages and deficiencies, and put forward that we should seize the favorable opportunity, deepen reforms, actively promote the transformation of development mode, management model and investment orientation to achieve the goal of increasing efficiency, improving quality and improving living conditions. Executive Vice President Wang Jianping also said that we should improve competitiveness by actively expanding development space, making general hospitals stronger and bigger, and constructing the newly-built specialized hospitals.

At the conference, the affiliated hospitals reported their work in 2012. Sun Qiangsan, Deputy President of the Second Hospital of Shandong University, and Lin Xingfeng, Director of Nursing Department of the Second Hospital of Shandong University, were also invited to attend the conference. They respectively delivered a report entitled “Implement Medical Management Terms and Improve Medical Management Level” and “Practice and Experience of Preparing for Hospital Grade Assessment”.

Persons in charge of Publicity Department, President’s Office, Office of Finance and University Assets, Audit Department, Information and Network Center, Dean’s Office of Medical Education Affairs, Office of Medical Science, and presidents, secretaries, vice presidents and persons in charge of relevant departments of the affiliated hospitals attended the conference. The conference was hosted by Bureau of Affiliated Hospitals Administration of SYSU.
