The Sun Yat-sen University-Johns Hopkins University (SYSU-JHU) collaborative program officially started the online course for clinical research investigators on September 25th. 74 trainees coming from the affiliated hospitals of SYSU get access to the online course through the Blackboard platform system.

The online course aims to help the trainees review the basic knowledge on clinical research and adapt to lectures in English. It comprises 25 video modules specifically recorded by the specialists from medical institute of Johns Hopkins University. Each module contains an English video lasting for about 20 minutes with Chinese subtitle. The course covers almost every aspect of clinical research with contents ranging from ethical issues to statistical methodology, from simplest trial to complicated research designs. In this online course, trainees can get the exact experience of having classes in JHU, which is helpful for them to get familiar with the teaching materials and develop their English skill.

The online course requires trainees to finish the 25 modules within a month all by themselves. Besides, the trainees should also finish a survey questionnaire, do pre-tests and post-tests of each module, answer the questions in assessment part and upload a self-introduction video at last. The high-quality course lectures and innovated teaching and learning methods, together with strict course requirements may prompt the trainees to learn better and make the course itself distinguished as a brand-course in SYSU.

The online course is technically supported by the Network and Information Technology Center of SYSU. The SYSU-JHU collaborative program workgroup is devoted to ensuring the course go smoothly by launching clear and update information to keep in touch with the trainees, providing instructions and guidance for the online course, handling the consulting and resort messages from trainees and solving any problem that comes up during the course. Up to now, the online course is going well. After the online course, 24 trainees will be selected to take part in the onsite courses which will be held in SYSU in November.

It is learned that another online course for clinical research coordinators will be available soon after the National Day holiday.
