The National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Druggabilitiy Assessment and Evaluation, mainly constructed by School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of SYSU, was officially approved by National Development and Reform Commission on November 7, 2013. This lab is the first national laboratory of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the first national platform in the field of druggability assessment and evaluation. The supporting unit is School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of SYSU and the joint unit is GDD-SYSU Institute of Bioindustry. Professor Liu Peiqing served as director and Professor Huang Min and Professor Du Jun, respectively, served as deputy director.

Based on the strategy of economic and social development and national construction plan of independent innovation, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Druggabilitiy Assessment and Evaluation, as a national and local joint platform, will provide technical support to strengthen the regional infrastructure and national layout, promote the formation of distinctive regional innovation system and the innovation platforms at different levels with rational distribution, benefit industrial structural adjustments, and foster strategic emerging industries.

The laboratory focuses on the core step and the weakness of new drug development of our country especially Guangdong area, relies on the overall advantage of pharmaceutical disciplines of SYSU and the good infrastructure of innovative drug platform, as well as the advantage of project organization, funding and achievements transformation of the joint construction unit GDD-SYSU Institute of Bioindustry. This lab is to establish an advanced international druggability assessment system with rapid large-scale evaluation capability as a service center, improve the efficiency of drug development and integration of innovation, build a world-class technology platform and R&D team to enhance the overall level of drug discovery of our country especially Guangdong area, promote the sustainable development of pharmaceutical industry, and become an important part of the drug development chain.

The approval of the laboratory indicates the new achievement in pharmaceutical disciplines and talent team construction of SYSU, and the affirmation on pharmacy and related disciplines construction of SYSU at the national level. To take this opportunity, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences will be dedicated to accelerate the construction of pharmaceutical disciplines and cooperative innovation system of pharmacy in South China, improve the level of new drug innovation and R&D efficiency, and enhance the capability of independent innovation of pharmaceutical industry in Guangdong region.
