On the morning of October 21, 2019, a delegation led by Prof David Wilkinson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) of Macquarie University, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Professor Sun Dongbai, Executive Vice President of SYSU, met with the delegation in Grant Hall on Guangzhou South Campus.
Executive Vice President Sun Dongbai extended a warm welcome to the guests and introduced SYSU’s advantageous disciplines, big research platforms and cooperation with Australian universities. He pointed out that the two universities have good basis of cooperation with many schools and departments already conducting collaborations to different extents. He expressed the hope to deepen and expand the cooperation and exchange between the two sides.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor David Wilkinson thanked SYSU for the warm reception and was impressed by SYSU’s rapid development and beautiful campus. He pointed out that the cooperation between the two universities has become closer in recent years, and he expected to promote the cooperation and exchange at various levels and in many fields between the two sides through the visit.
Executive Vice President Sun Dongbai and Deputy Vice-Chancellor David Wilkinson signed the MOU on behalf of the two universities.

Members of the delegation also included Ms Nicole Brigg, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) of Macquarie University, and Mr Stephen Fan, Associate Director China Engagement. Representatives from SYSU’s School of International Studies, School of Foreign Languages, Department of Philosophy, Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.

Established in 1964, Macquarie University is a comprehensive research university in Sydney, Australia. It is the first university to offer actuarial courses in Australia. Its academic strengths include linguistics, philosophy, finance, actuarial science, accounting, psychology, law, earth and marine sciences, geography, etc. SYSU’s School of Business and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, among others, have conducted various exchanges and cooperation with Macquarie University.
