A delegation led by Prof. Luo Jun, President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), visited France and Germany on October 12-16, 2015. During the trip, Prof. Luo Jun chaired the first meeting of the 6th Management Committee of Board of Directors of IFCEN (Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology). The visit has achieved fruitful results and has promoted the cooperation between SYSU and the Université fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées (hereinafter referred to as “University of Toulouse”), the Université Jean Moulin Lyon III, FINUCI, and the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics.

On October 12, Prof. Luo Jun visited the University of Toulouse and met with Prof. Olivier Simonin, President of INP Toulouse, and Prof. Laurant Grosclaude, Vice President of the University of Toulouse. The two sides discussed cooperation opportunities for the next stage and signed a cooperation agreement between SYSU and the University of Toulouse. The signing of this cooperation agreement indicates that the mutual collaborations will be expanded from the fields of law, business and political sciences into all disciplines. Prof. Luo Jun also met with scholars from the laboratories LAPLACE, LAAS, LNCMI, IRAP and the Midi-Pyrenees Observatory, and discussed plans for future cooperation.

On October 13, the SYSU delegation visited Lyon. Prof. Luo Jun met with Mr. Alain Labat, Acting President of the Association Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois, and visited the former site of the library of Lyon Sino-French Institute. They discussed how to develop the SYSU-Lyon Sino-French Academic Exchange Center and how to use this platform to enhance cooperation and exchange in various fields.

In the afternoon, the SYSU delegation had a meeting with Prof. Jacques Comby, President of the Université Jean Moulin Lyon III, and Prof. Peter Wirtz, Vice President of the Université Jean Moulin Lyon III, and reached consensuses on further strengthening cooperation between the two universities. The two sides have agreed to jointly promote research and exchange activities in the Sun Yat-sen - Jean Moulin Sino-French Academic Center.

During the visit to Lyon, Prof. Luo Jun also met with the SYSU alumni in Lyon.

On October 14, Prof. Luo Jun chaired the first meeting of the 6th Management Committee of Board of Directors of IFCEN. At the meeting, the two sides signed an agreement, which is for the second phase of cooperation (2016-2022) based on the first phase of cooperation (2010-2016). They agreed to further improve the Sino-French cooperation model for educating elite engineers, and train and provide more high-level nuclear engineers.

After the visit to France, Prof. Luo Jun also paid a visit to the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics and the Geodetic Observatory in Germany.
