On the afternoon of March 23, 2015, Prof. Peter Coaldrake, Vice-Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the QUT delegation also included Prof. Scott Sheppard, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development), and Prof. Ross Young, Executive Dean of Faculty of Health.

Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building, accompanied by Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU; Prof. Ling Wenhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange; Prof. Yang Song, Deputy Dean of School of Environmental Science and Engineering; Prof. Lin Zhengmei, Deputy Dean of Guanghua School of Stomatology; and representatives from School of Public Health.

Prof. Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to the QUT delegation. He hoped that on the basis of existing collaborations, and with the assistance of the cooperation platform between QUT and Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, SYSU and QUT would promote faculty and student exchange as well as research cooperation in public health, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and seek opportunities of cooperation in air quality science and other fields.

Prof. Peter Coaldrake said that he was pleased to visit SYSU again, and he congratulated Prof. Luo Jun on taking up the position of SYSU President. Prof. Peter Coaldrake mentioned that QUT has established three research centers with Chinese universities and organizations: Australia-China Center for Advancement in Air Quality, Australia-China Center for Public Health, and Australia-China Center for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. QUT has just signed a MOU with Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology on the morning of March 23, with the aim to promote cooperation in air quality science, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, seasonal disease prevention and control, and public health. He also expressed the hope to expand cooperation with SYSU.

Afterwards, the QUT delegation held discussions on deepening cooperation with representatives from School of Public Health, Guanghua School of Stomatology, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

Established in 1908, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a renowned university in Australia. In 2009, QUT Business School and Lingnan (University) College at SYSU signed an agreement on joint degree program and student exchange program. In 2011, QUT and SYSU signed a student exchange agreement at the university level. In 2013, the two universities signed a MOU on cooperation.
