On May 24, Michael McRobbie, President of Indiana University (IU) visited SYSU, accompanied by IU First Lady Ms. Laurie McRobbie; David Zaret, Vice President for International Affairs; Shawn Reynolds, Associate Vice President for International Partnerships; Professor Joe Xu, Director of Confucius Institute in Indianapolis; and Shawn Conner, Associate Director for International Partnerships. Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng, Vice President Yan Guangmei, Deputy Secretary Li Ping and Vice President Wei Minghai met with the guests on different occations. Zhang Zhe, Director of Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, and persons in charge of School of Philanthropy, Dean’s Office of Medical Education Affairs and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange also attended the meetings.

Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng extended a warm welcome to President Michael McRobbie and his delegation, and introduced the general situation of SYSU.

Vice President Wei Minghai mainly introduced SYSU’s international programs. The two sides discussed about enhancing collaborations in the humanities and social sciences.

SYSU and IUPUI recently established the Cooperative Development Committee and will hold joint conferences regularly to review and promote cooperation. Both sides hoped to fully exploit their own advantages and further facilitate cooperation through this mechanism.

The IU delegation also visited the School of Philanthropy, East Campus, Cancer Center and Zhongshan School of Medicine, and held talks with relevant persons in charge.

Earlier, SYSU President Xu Ningsheng and Vice President Yan Guangmei had a cordial meeting with President Michael McRobbie and his entourage in Beijing. The two sides mainly exchanged views on deepening collaborations.

Indiana University (IU) was established in 1820 and has 8 campuses. It is one of the research universities of the highest quality in the USA. So far, IU has become one of the top US universities with academic strengths in the humanities and social sciences. SYSU and IU jointly set up the Confucius Institute in 2007 and subsequently established strategic partnership for all-round cooperation.
