Yesterday morning, Xu Ningsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Sun Yat-sen University, came to Huizhou to attend the signing ceremony of a long-term cooperation agreement between Sun Yat-sen University and Huizhou Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone (National) Administrative Commission. He received a warm welcome from Chen Yiwei, Secretary of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Huizhou. Zhang Ying, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor of Huizhou, and leaders of Daya Bay District attended the signing ceremony.

Xu Ningsheng said that Huizhou is a dynamic city. In recent years, it has witnessed a vigorous development and a gratifying momentum in social undertakings and pillar industries including petrochemical industry and electronic industry. Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive university covering the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, etc. SYSU has always paid close attention to the development of Huizhou and both sides have a good basis for cooperation. He expressed that SYSU will stick to the principle of serving the local, focus on the goal of building a solid foundation, expanding cooperation and strengthening development, further enhance collaborations with Huizhou, increase the input in scientific research talents and research funding, so as to make more contribution to Huizhou’s industry development and talent training and introduction.

When meeting with Xu Ningsheng, Chen Yiwei expressed thanks to SYSU for its long-term concern and support. He said that Huizhou has a good beginning of cooperation with SYSU. The establishment of Huiya Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is a key step to bring the most benefits for the general public. The Huizhou Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University also takes roots in Huizhou, serves the whole province, and brings into full play the scientific and talent advantages to promote the local economic development. With a large scale and strong momentum of development, Huizhou’s petrochemical industry and electronic information industry have become important transformation bases for scientific and technological achievements. Sun Yat-sen University is a first-class comprehensive university in China. SYSU and Huizhou have the basis and potentials for further cooperation, and have broad prospects for development. He hoped that both sides will further enlarge areas of cooperation and achieve common development.

According to the introduction, the Huizhou Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University has preliminarily built 6 public service platforms: testing platform, science & technology information retrieval platform, science & technology service platform, hazardous chemicals safety service platform, education & training platform, and product design platform. It has established 8 research orientations to meet the needs of industries in Daya Bay District. With the signing of the long-term cooperation agreement, SYSU will make full use of the scientific and technological innovation platforms, scientific research teams, the Master of Engineering program and the enterprise postdoctoral research station to provide better science & technology service and talent service for Huizhou and Daya Bay District.
