On the morning of November 14, the Vice Chancellor of Vanderbilt University Richard MaCarty led a five-member delegation to pay a visit to SYSU. Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng met with the guests in the VIP Lounge of Zhongshan Building, accompanied by Director Kang Baocheng and Deputy Director Song Junhua of the Institute of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage at SYSU, and Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange Xu Yao.

Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President Chen Chunsheng expressed a warm welcome to the delegation and thanked Vanderbilt University for its contribution to promoting the cooperation between the two universities. He pointed out that the research on intangible cultural heritage is a new and key subject and has received attention at all levels of government, and that the U.S. has a lot of advanced experience which we can draw on. He said that SYSU strongly supports the Institute of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage to actively conduct international cooperation and exchange, and hoped that the two universities can further develop collaborations in humanities and social sciences and actively promote the programs of student exchange, visiting scholar, collaborative research, etc.
Vice Chancellor McCarty appreciated the efforts made by SYSU. He expressed that the visit has left a deep impression on him. He hoped that the two universities will keep the favorable cooperative relationship, expand cooperative fields and enrich cooperative contents. He sincerely invited SYSU delegation to pay a visit to Vanderbilt University.
Since 2009, the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise & Public Policy at Vanderbilt University and the Institute of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage at SYSU have carried out exchange and collaborative research and held regular seminars on folklore and preservation of intangible cultural heritage. This visit was aimed to explore other fields of cooperation on the original basis.
Vanderbilt University was founded in 1837. It has 10 schools including Law School, School of Medicine, Peabody College of Education and Human Development, School of Nursing, etc. It is known for its outstanding educational quality and powerful strength in scientific research. In the rankings of American universities in 2012, Vanderbilt University is ranked 17th by US News & World Report.
