From November 16 to 17, Professor Roger David Kornberg, winner of 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the academician of American Academy of Science, visited our university.

On the afternoon of November 17^th, Xiao Zhiheng, member of the standing committee of provincial party committee and executive vice governor, met Professor Kornberg’s delegation in the VIP hall of Zhongshan Building in our university, accompanied by Secretary Zheng Detao, Vice President Xu Anlong and other leaders. Executive vice governor Xiao Zhiheng extended a warm welcome to Professor Kornberg, and introduced the basic conditions of Guangdong’s economic and society development to him.

Professor Kornberg said that he appreciated Sun Yat-sen University’s emphasis on academic quality. He hoped to cooperate with SYSU in the field of structural biology, and to develop young scientists to the leading position of synthetic biology and pharmacy for SYSU.
　　　
Afterwards, Professor Kornberg attended the tenth lecture of our university’s Nobel Laureates Series Lectures, and delivered a speech titled “Beyond Genes” for our teachers and students.
