Recently, 8 people from SYSU paid a visit to France, including Qiu Rongliang, Director of Guangdong Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution Control and Remediation Technology, and Li Shiyu, Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering. They conducted academic communications and signed a joint protocol with French National Institute for Agricultural Research (Department of Environment and Agriculture).

The two sides had academic discussions on four hot issues in agriculture and environment, namely organic pollution in soil and recycling of waste in agriculture, soil pollution and remediation, microbial activity of soil ecosystem function, biochemical cycle and the monitoring of soil and water. The discussions covered the main research fields in soil environment of the four regional research centers subordinating to the Key Laboratory and INRA (Department of Environment and Agriculture). The two sides also visited the laboratories and experimental bases in the four research centers in Grignon, Nancy, Dijon and Orleans. Representing both sides, Director Qiu Rongliang of the Key Laboratory and Director Guy Richard of the Department of Environment and Agriculture, signed a joint protocol in the head quarter of the Department in Paris. The protocol outlines the joint research fields, such as the disposition and research of organic waste, carbonnitrogen cycle and carbon emission reduction, the disposition and interaction of pollution in soil and agroecological system, and the soil remediation and planning of polluted areas. The two sides will have substantial cooperation in exchanging postgraduate students and scholars, cooperating in scientific research projects, co-building laboratories, and holding China-France soil and environment meetings. The protocol provides a solid support for the joint forefront research of soil and environment between China and France.
