May 21th, hosted by the School of Public Health of SYSU, "Eleventh Five-Year" major national science and technology major project "Guangdong Community prevention and control for AIDS and viral hepatitis" was held on the North Campus, and Prof. Ling Wenhua, Dean of the School of Public Health, Wu Peixin, Director of management office for implement major projects of National Communicable Disease Control Ministry of Health, Li Handing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Guangdong Provincial Government, Huang Fei, Deputy director of the Health Department of Guangdong Province, Li Mengfan, Vice-president of SYSU, and Xu Anlong, Vice-president of SYSU were present at the meeting. More than 150 people including heads of related office of provincial health department, heads of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau and the Shenzhen Municipal Health Bureau, experts from SYSU, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangdong College of Pharmacy and other universities were present.

The total investment for "Guangdong Province, AIDS, viral hepatitis prevention and control of Community," was about 27.24 million yuan. The administering of the project will launch comprehensive prevention mode for community-based AIDS, viral hepatitis and other major infectious diseases for the whole population (including non-household population), establish and perfect the electronic health records for local community residents of an integrated model ,Establish an information platform for the inspection, prevention and contingent management of major infectious diseases like aids and hepatitis , as well as some newly developed, emerging infectious diseases . And it also serves to provide for the subsequent implementation of strategies which means to promote and ultimately lower rates of infection and mortality for AIDS and viral hepatitis, improving survival rates of AIDS patients and improve patient quality of life. By obtaining research findings of application values and and the appropriate path and strategy that are suitable for the country, we can sum up the experience and promote it through out the country.

Prof. Ling Wenhua, the leader of the project on behalf of the team presented the basic condition of the subject and the subject of implementation of the profile. Leaders present at the meeting issuedletters of appointment and announced that "Eleventh Five-Year" major National Science and Technology projects "Guangdong Community prevention and control for AIDS and viral hepatitis," was officially launched. The project "Guangdong Province, AIDS, viral hepatitis prevention and control of Community," will be implemented thoroughly.
