On the afternoon of July 7 (local time), the China-Dominica Cardiovascular Imaging Center and Telemedicine Center were launched at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital.

“Since 2009, China has sent medical teams to Dominica. Many members are from the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU),” Xiao Haipeng, Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and President of the FAH-SYSU, said in his speech.

Dr. Wu Dexi is one of them. During his three-year stay, Dr. Wu has performed many cardiac operations first-ever in Dominica, and worked closely with his counterparts to establish Dominica's first Cardiology Department.

With support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Health Commission of China, the FAH-SYSU was approved to undertake the project of the China-Dominica Cardiovascular Imaging Center.

Xiao added, “This is a milestone in medical collaboration between China and Dominica. The project aims to promote the advancement of healthcare delivery at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital, and build a team of competent physicians who are able to serve the better health and wellbeing of people here.”

“It's the epitome of 60 years of Chinese foreign medical assistance,” Hua posted on Twitter, “China has sent five medical teams with some 30 experts to Dominica over the past 14 years. Among them, Dr Wu Dexi alone has treated over 5,000 patients.”

Two cardiovascular experts, Dr. Wu Dexi and Dr. Yang Zhen, have laid a solid foundation for the development of local cardiovascular specialties. By furthering infrastructure construction, talent training, and academic exchanges, the China-Dominica Cardiovascular Imaging Center and Telemedicine Center aim at a higher level of vascular diagnosis and treatment in Dominica.
