On August 30, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) held the work conference on exercising full and strict governance over the Party in the affiliated hospitals at the Zhujiang New Town Division of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center. Secretary Chen Chunsheng delivered a keynote report. President Luo Jun delivered concluding remarks. Deputy Secretary Lin Dongwei presided over the conference. University leaders including Deputy Secretary Guo Yaping, Deputy Secretary and Vice President Ma Jun, and Vice President Xiao Haipeng, heads of the University’s relevant functional units; leadership of the affiliated hospitals, heads of the hospitals’ relevant departments, representatives of Party branch secretaries, and members of the first hospital carders’ administrative competence training class attended the conference.
SYSU held work conference on exercising full and strict governance over the Party in the affiliated hospitals.
With the theme of “implementing the new requirements for Party building for the new era, exercising full and strict governance over the Party in the affiliated hospitals”, the conference was aimed to learn about the situation and problems in exercising full and strict governance over the Party in the affiliated hospitals, make clear the responsibilities and tasks of strengthening Party building, create a clean and upright medical environment, promote further construction and development of the affiliated hospitals, improve the level of medical science disciplines and the quality of medical talent cultivation, and make contributions to the medical and health cause of the Party and the country.

Secretary Chen Chunsheng emphasized in the keynote report that we must study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on education and health work, strengthen our consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity and think in big-picture terms, and understand the special significance of exercising full and strict governance of the Party in the affiliated hospitals. He affirmed the efforts and achievements made by the affiliated hospitals in recent years in exercising full and strict governance over the Party.
Secretary Chen Chunsheng pointed out that on the whole the work was solid and effective. However, there are some prominent problems. He required the affiliated hospitals to implement the president responsibility system under the leadership of the Party committee; enhance Party building at the primary level in the hospitals; strengthen the ideological and political work; build good conduct and political integrity and fight corruption. He also required the relevant departments of the University to cooperate and help the hospitals to solve the problems and difficulties.

Deputy Secretary Lin Dongwei reported on the cases of violation of discipline and rules in the affiliated hospitals since the beginning of this year. He pointed out that we must look for loopholes and weak links from the aspects of system and mechanism as well as management and supervision, set up and perfect relevant regulations, and prevent such problems from occurring again. The disciplinary inspection commissions of the affiliated hospitals should effectively perform the responsibility of supervision.

President Luo Jun delivered concluding remarks. He pointed out that the conference has shown that the SYSU Party Committee attaches great importance to exercising full and strict governance over the Party in the affiliated hospitals, and the University attaches great importance to advancing the development of the affiliated hospitals. The carders and staff of the hospitals should keep our mission firmly in mind, nurture talents for the Party and the country, heal the wounded and rescue the dying, relieve the pain and promote the health of mankind; be loyal, clean and responsible; strengthen implementation, and realize the goal of exercising full and strict governance over the Party. He hoped that they would make continuous efforts for the future development of the University, and make greater contributions to accelerating the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and the construction of world-class medical sciences.

At the conference, Secretary Luo Teng of the First Affiliated Hospital, Secretary Wu Shaoxin of the Cancer Center, Secretary Wang Jingfeng of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, and Secretary Xia Dan of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center delivered a speech in turn. Through examples of the highlights and achievements in their respective hospitals, they shared good practices in Party building at the primary level, risk control, Party branch construction, the Party exercising leadership over personnel, etc. In the afternoon, the participants held group discussions on the keynote report and the opinion soliciting draft of strengthening Party building work in the affiliated hospitals. The participants also made suggestions on carrying out the education campaign on the theme of “staying true to our founding mission” in the University. The group conveners reported on their discussions, and Deputy Secretary Lin Dongwei offered comments and made a summary.
