On June 21, 2016, the signing ceremony of the agreement between Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government to jointly build SYSU’s Seventh Affiliated Hospital was held in Wuzhou Guest House in Shenzhen. Mr. Ma Xingrui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Mr. Xu Qin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shenzhen, and Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, attended the ceremony.
Before the signing ceremony, the two sides held a meeting. Secretary Ma Xingrui reviewed the work since the signing of the cooperation framework agreement between the City and the University. He pointed out that Shenzhen is conducting medical reform, and SYSU’s Seventh Affiliated Hospital will raise the level of healthcare in Shenzhen. He asked relevant departments to enhance communication and coordination with SYSU in order to accelerate the construction of the Hospital.
At the meeting, President Luo Jun introduced SYSU’s planning for Shenzhen Campus, especially progress in talent recruitment and basic condition construction of the Seventh Affiliated Hospital. He said that SYSU is willing to take part in Shenzhen’s medical reform and development. The Hospital will make good use of Shenzhen’s innovation environment and SYSU’s medical strengths to explore modern hospital management system, build high-level medical innovation platform, and realize coordinated development of medical treatment, teaching and research.

After the meeting, Mayor Xu Qin and President Luo Jun signed the agreement on behalf of the City and the University respectively.
Located in Guangming New District, the Seventh Affiliated Hospital is SYSU’s first directly affiliated hospital in Shenzhen, which is expected to open in 2017. It is designed to have a total of 4,000 beds, with 800 beds to be completed in Phase I construction. The City and the University will join hands to build it into a hospital in Shenzhen, which is largest in scale, most complete in clinical specialties, most advanced in diagnosis and treatment technologies, and with the largest number of high-level medical professionals. The Hospital will serve as a regional medical and healthcare center, a public health disaster medical center, and a national health center.
