On October 20, 2015, Guanghua School of Stomatology at Sun Yat-sen University and Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University in the United States signed a cooperation agreement and held the Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering Joint Forum in Guanghua Hospital of Stomatology. Dean Amid I. Ismail, Prof. Peter I. Lelkes and Dr. Maobin Yang from Kornberg School of Dentistry, as well as faculty and student representatives from Guanghua School of Stomatology attended the event.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Prof. Wei Xi, Assistant Dean of Guanghua School of Stomatology. Prof. Cheng Bin, Executive Deputy Dean of Guanghua School of Stomatology, gave a welcome speech. Prof. Amid I. Ismail and Prof. Lin Zhengmei, Deputy Dean of Guanghua School of Stomatology, respectively introduced the two schools in health care, education, research and international cooperation. Prof. Amid I. Ismail and Prof. Cheng Bin signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the two schools and exchanged gifts.

Afterwards, six experts gave lectures at the Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering Joint Forum: Prof. Peter I. Lelkes (I. "Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine: A New Frontier”; II. "Regenerative Tissue Engineering and Medicine– From Biomimetic Scaffolds and Stem Cells to Whole Organs”); Dr. Maobin Yang (“Regenerative Endodontics: the Application of Tissue Engineering in Dental Specialty”); Prof. Ling Junqi (“Wnt Proteins and Regeneration Endodontics”); Prof. Wei Xi (“Reprogramming factors: their role in dental regeneration and repair”); Prof. Chen Zhuofan (“Fluorinated porcine calcium phosphates in bone tissue engineering: preparation, physiochemical properties and biological responses both
in vitro and
in vivo”); and Dr. Xu Yue (“Biomechanics Diagnosis and Treatment Guideline of Temporomandibular Disorders”).
The forum attracted many postgraduate students. In the panel discussion session, the students asked questions on Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering, and discussed with the professors.
The Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering Joint Forum
With the cooperation agreement, the two schools will conduct wider and deeper collaborations in student exchange, faculty visit, scientific research and academic exchange. With joint efforts, the cooperation and exchange between the two schools will lead to more fruitful results.
