According to the notice issued by the General Office of National Health and Family Planning Commission, 17 specialties in The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, The Third Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, and Hospital of Stomatology have passed the evaluation and have been designated as 2013-2014 national key clinical specialty construction projects.

Since the selection started in 2010, a total of 52 specialties in SYSU affiliated hospitals have been listed as national key clinical specialty construction projects, accounting for nearly half of the total number of such projects in Guangdong province (106 projects). The First Affiliated Hospital, with 28 specialties approved, is one of the Level-3-Grade-A hospitals that have the most number of such projects nationwide.
