Yesterday afternoon, the Bureau of Health of Guangzhou Municipality signed a cooperation agreement with Sun Yat-sen University. Each year in the next five years, about 50 clinicians working in community-level medical and health care organizations will receive a 3-year standardized training for general practitioners.

According to the opinion on establishing the general practitioner system launched last year, Guangzhou will have 2-3 qualified general practitioners per 10,000 residents in 2020. Hu Bingjie, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Health of Guangzhou Municipality, said that in order to realize this goal, it is possible to increase the number of trainees according to the teaching capacity of SYSU.
