Recently, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC) signed agreements with eight hospitals in five provinces for a new round of counterpart assistance and signed voluntary service projects with ten universities in Guangzhou. Chen Zhusheng, Deputy Director of Department of Health of Guangdong Province; Li Mengfeng, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University; representatives from the eight hospitals and SYSUCC social supervisors attended the ceremony. Li Jianchao, Secretary of SYSUCC Party Committee, presided over the ceremony.
Deputy Director Chen Zhusheng said that with the development of medical and health system reform, the nation’s medical and health service network will make major breakthroughs in resource sharing, horizontal and vertical cooperation, the fairness and availability of basic medical service will also be hugely improved. He wishes that the eight hospitals in five neighboring provinces will develop with the support from the government, the help of SYSUCC as well as their own efforts in the new round of counterpart assistance activity.
Vice president Li Mengfeng pointed out in his speech that our nation is still at the crucial period of reforming the health care system. It is an undeniable duty and mission for SYSU, a university with eight affiliated hospitals, to serve the society by reducing the problem of "poor access and high fee” in seeing a doctor. True to its reputation, SYSUCC carries out the model of “helping step by step” to solve the problem of unavailability of good medical resources and help the hospitals to extend their networks of treatment and service.

Counterpart assistance is a long-term and continuous work. After signing counterpart assistance agreements with eight hospitals in four provinces in November 2009, SYSUCC expands its scope of assistance to five provinces this time, signing counterpart assistance agreements with eight hospitals in five provinces including Chenzhou People’s Hospital in Hunan Province for a new round of counterpart assistance. In the next three years, SYSUCC will overcome difficulties to realize the purpose of serving the local people through the “Three Ones”, namely, sending one team, helping one specialty and cultivating one batch of talents.
SYSUCC not only spares no effort to tackle the problem of poor access and high fee of medical service, but also takes as its duty to "cure the illness and build a healthy body and mind” . It volunteers to organize youngsters to visit cancer patients, bringing care from the heart and warmth of humanity, and giving them more positive energy, wisdom, courage and power to fight against tumors.
In order to standardize and normalize the voluntary service, SYSUCC officially signed agreements with ten universities including South China University of Technology to jointly carry out the project of “Warm Xinglin—Voluntary Service in the Hospital” and bring humanistic care from universities to the patients.
