On behalf of SYSU, Vise President Yan Guangmei warmly welcomed the guests and expressed the hope of SYSU to establish long-term strategic cooperation partnership with UoB and UoG in the field of medical sciences. At the symposium, Vice President Li Mengfeng and over twenty specialists and scholars from China and the UK in the areas of immunology, infection and infectious disease, cell therapy, gene therapy, cardiovascular disease, public health, cancer research and clinical trial made academic reports. More than two hundred faculty and students attended the symposium.

During the symposium, representatives from the three universities also held group discussions on joint cultivation of talents, joint scientific research programs in corresponding fields, and the content and mode of future collaborations. The guests also visited Zhongshan School of Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center with great interest.
The success of the symposium was a prelude to SYSU-UoB-UoG collaboration and strongly promoted future construction of the SYSU-UoB-UoG international strategic cooperation partnership.
Over the two years, the communication between SYSU and universities in Europe has become increasingly frequent. Among these universities, the University of Birmingham and the University of Glasgow are very active in cooperation with SYSU, especially in the field of medical sciences. In order to promote the cooperation and exchange among the three universities, the leaders and scholar delegations of UoB and UoG have come to SYSU several times, and Vice President Yan Guangmei also led a medical delegation to visit UoB and UoG in September, 2012 to gain an in-depth knowledge of the medical education, scientific research and medical system in the UK.
