The delegation from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh of UK and College of Surgeons of Hong Kong visited SYSU on march 13, carrying out a comprehensive and rigorous examination to the subsidiary of a hospital surgical residency training base by listening to the reports, site visits, resident interviews and other sectors.
The meeting took place in the academic hall of the outpatient building of the hospital, where President Wang Shenming on behalf of the hospital extended his warm welcome to the delegation and the desire that through cooperation, the subsidiary of the hospital surgical residency training programs will be internationally recognized and leads in the country. He then went on to present the history, current state and the future of the hospital, emphasized in particular the introduction of the teaching resource, talents, teaching system and other aspects of the hospital residency training.
Subsequently the delegation visited the multi-media classrooms, and examined the real-time broadcast operation system, the application materials, training system, the relevant documents and residency training manuals on the 17th floor of the clinic. They also visited Pancreas of gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, anesthesiology operating room, emergency surgery, radiology, medical library, medical museum medical, clinical skills training center. The delegation spoke highly of the clinical teaching facilities of the subsidiary of the hospital, especially the multi-media classrooms and real-time broadcast system and the clinical surgical skills training center that have met the world-class standards.. They were amazed by the hospital’s medical resource and its strong teaching team.
Members of the delegation carried out face to face communication with 22 surgical resident doctors whom they had selected at random and classified from low to high scores into three groups The delegation was very satisfied with the calmness, confidence and fluent spoken English the Physicians at the hospital surgical training of the First Affiliated Hospital had demonstrated. The delegation then gave the feedback to the leaders of the hospital. They affirmed the hospital’s hard facilities and the training system, appraised the training and performances of the resident doctors, and also showed that the hospital had completely met the requirements of the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh of UK and the Collegeof Surgeons of Hong Kong. The two sides agreed to have the official signing ceremony take place in September, thus making the First Affiliated Hospital the only surgical based unit in South China authenticated by the British Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh & the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong" and the third hospital after the Beijing Union Medical College Hospital and Peking University People's Hospital.
