The Spring Reception 2024 of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was held in Hong Kong on April 20.
It marks the start of series reception events in SYSU’s 100th anniversary year.

The event saw the participation of over 300 scholars, government officials, prominent figures from social institutions, alumni and leaders of SYSU.

Addressing the event, Chen Chunsheng, secretary of the CPC SYSU committee and chairman of SYSU Education Development Foundation, expressed that many insightful individuals and institutions have made outstanding contributions to the university's education development at different stages of SYSU, together with SYSU, assuming responsibility of serving the society and benefiting the people.

Therefore, on the occasion of its centenary anniversary, SYSU established university-level honorary titles to express gratitude to those who donated and contributed to the university’s development, and encourage more charitable giving among society.

At the ceremony, two honorary trustees were conferred, seven individuals and organizations were granted the “Yat-Sen Friendship Award”, more than 20 individuals and organizations were awarded the “Yat-Sen Outstanding Education Contribution Award”, and over 40 individuals and organizations were given the “Yat-Sen Education Contribution Award”.

In his speech, Chen expressed his gratitude to three patriots, Fok Ying Tung, Wu Zhande, and Zeng Xianzi, for their care and love for the educational undertakings of SYSU.
He said that their spirit of selfless dedication as well as their foresight, are exactly the inheritance of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's educational spirit.
This year, SYSU established an Advanced Research Institute in Hong Kong, leveraging Hong Kong's geographical advantages to attract top scholars from around the world, establish world-leading laboratories, develop cutting-edge technologies, and to cultivate top talents with spirit of innovation.

According to his introduction, SYSU will establish a Basic Science Center for Evolution and Synthetic Biology, as well as a Biomedical Research Center, to carry out cross-border collaboration on synthetic biology in the future.
A donation ceremony was also held at the event.
The Fok Ying Tung Foundation donated to support the renovation project of the Fok Ying Tung Sports Center.
Sun Yat-sen University Alumni Association of Shenzhen donated to establish the first fund for the construction of Hong Kong Advanced Research Institute of SYSU.

As one of the most powerful comprehensive universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the initiator of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, SYSU chose to hold the first session of reception events in Hong Kong, which is also the first time that SYSU has awarded university-level honors in Hong Kong.
In the near future, SYSU will hold the next Spring Reception and awarding ceremony of honorary titles in Qingdao.
