On the morning of November 1, 2018, Professor Sun Dongbai, Executive Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), met with Professor Frédéric Villieras, Vice President of University of Lorraine, Honorary Professor Jean Louis Morel, Professor Marie-Odile Simonnot, Director of EPMM Laboratary; as well as Mr. Pierre Cellier, Director of INRA Department of Environmental Agriculture, and Mr. Corinne Leyval, Director of CNRS OTELo Laboratory. They held discussions on deepening exchange and cooperation between the two sides.

Executive Vice President Sun Dongbai extended a warm welcome to the guests. He affirmed the achievements of joint graduate programs and joint research programs between SYSU and the University of Lorraine in the two academic disciplines of soil restoration and French linguistics. Especially, the cooperation between SYSU’s School of Environmental Science and Engineering and the University of Lorraine in polluted soil restoration has received funding from the “111 Plan” of the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China, and become a model of SYSU’s collaboration with universities and research institutions in France. Executive Vice President Sun Dongbai expressed the hope that the two universities will continue to strengthen existing collaborations.
Vice President Frédéric Villieras thanked SYSU for the warm reception. He agreed that the cooperation between University of Lorraine and SYSU in the field of polluted soil restoration is a successful example of the collaborations between the two universities. He hoped that the two universities will establish more deep level cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research, and explore possibilities of expanding cooperation in earth sciences, chemical engineering, automatic control and public health.
Professor Qiu Rongliang, Dean of School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Ms. Gu Wenli, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, also attended the meeting.
