On the afternoon of September 28, 2018, a six-member delegation led by Prof. Guido Saracco, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the delegation also included Prof. Michele Bonino, Rector’s delegate for relations with China, and Prof. Roberto Zanino, Rector’s delegate for European relations. Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, met with the guests on Guangzhou South Campus. Prof. Xiao Haipeng, Vice President of SYSU, introduced the history, campus construction and academic strengths of SYSU.

President Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He pointed out that SYSU and the Polytechnic University of Turin had conducted collaborations in physics and astronomy, and he hoped that the two universities would consolidate existing cooperation and explore new areas of cooperation such as engineering and computer science.
Rector Guido Saracco presented an introduction to the Polytechnic University of Turin. He expressed the hope to promote the cooperation and exchange between the two universities through this visit.
At the meeting, experts from both universities held in-depth discussions and reached consensus of cooperation in the fields of supercomputing, space science and image detection. Representatives from SYSU’s School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Intelligent Systems Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.
Established in 1906, the Polytechnic University of Turin is a renowned public polytechnic university in Italy. It has strengths in civil engineering and technology, engineering and technology, architecture, electronics and electric engineering, materials science, computer science and information, and mechanical engineering. According to the 2018 QS World University Rankings, its engineering and technology ranks 2nd in Europe and 33rd in the world.
