On the morning of November 17, 2016, a delegation to the 6th Meeting of the Joint Council of ASEAN-CHINA Centre visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the delegation included permanent representatives of Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam to ASEAN, , H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre, as well as officials from ASEAN countries and Mission of China to ASEAN.
Prof. Yan Guangmei, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests at the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou (NSCC-GZ), accompanied by representatives from NSCC-GZ, Student Affairs Office, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

Prof. Yan Guangmei extended a warm welcome to the delegates and introduced SYSU’s development, characteristics and its cooperation and exchange with universities in ASEAN countries. He expressed the hope to enhance collaborations with universities in ASEAN countries in faculty visit, student exchange and joint research.
H.E. Mr. Tan Hung Seng, Permanent Representative of Singapore to ASEAN, thanked SYSU for the warm reception. He pointed out that ASEAN countries and Guangdong province have a long history of friendly communication and great potential for cooperation. He hoped that the cooperation and exchange between SYSU and universities in ASEAN countries would reach a new level.
After the meeting, the delegates communicated with student representatives from ASEAN countries who are studying at SYSU, and then visited the Tianhe-2 supercomputer.
The ASEAN-China Centre is the only inter-governmental organization jointly founded by the Governments of 10 ASEAN Member States and China with the aim to enhance functional cooperation in five priority areas of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism.
