A delegation from University of Western Australia visited SYSU

On September 13-15, 2015, a five-member delegation from University of Western Australia (UWA) led by Professor Ming-Hao Zheng, Associate Dean International, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (FMDHS), visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the UWA delegation also included Professor Sandra Carr, Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning of FMDHS, Professor Norman Palmer, Special Projects Director of Western Australian Neuroscience Research Institute (WANRI), Professor Steve Wilton, Director of WANRI, and Ms Erica Yeh, Manager of Teaching and Learning Education Centre of FMDHS.

SYSU Vice Presidents Professor Yan Guangmei and Professor Li Mengfeng met with the delegation respectively. The two sides held discussions and reached consensus on medical student exchange, medical education and research cooperation. Representatives from Office of Medical Education, Graduate School, Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, Zhongshan School of Medicine, School of Public Health, and Guanghua School of Stomatology/Hospital of Stomatology, attended the meeting.

Members of the UWA delegation also visited The First Affiliated Hospital and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, and gave three lectures to the faculty and students on North Campus of SYSU.

The University of Western Australia (UWA) was founded in 1911. It is ranked among the world top 100 universities by QS World University Rankings 2015/16. SYSU and UWA established cooperative relations in the 1990s. In October 2013, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at SYSU signed an MOU with UWA to jointly build the Barry Marshall Research Center. The Western Australian Neuroscience Research Institute (WANRI) is Western Australia’s oldest medical research institute. Formerly known as the Australian Neuromuscular Research Institute, WANRI is at the forefront of international research on muscle, nerve and brain disorders, and has been since its establishment in 1982.
