On the afternoon of May 4, 2015, the signing ceremony of “Duanmu Zheng Foundation” of School of Law, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was held in Swasey Hall on South Campus of SYSU.

Prof. Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, pointed out that the establishment of the Foundation is an action to support the cultivation of talents. The outstanding performance of alumni is a proof of the excellent education of the alma mater. On the May Fourth Youth Day, she hoped that the students will keep youth and vitality.
Mr. Bertrand Furno, Consul General of France in Guangzhou, said that Prof. Duanmu Zheng was a true friend of France. He believed that the Foundation will promote friendly exchanges between SYSU and the French government, as well as the international academic exchange in the School of Law.
Ms. Duanmu Mei, daughter of Duanmu Zheng and Professor of Institute of World History at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, recalled his father’s love for the university and the students. On behalf of the family members, she expressed gratitude for the establishment of the Foundation, and she hoped that the students will pass down the good tradition.
Dr. Xie Rudong, SYSU alumnus and initiator of the Foundation, introduced that the Foundation is open-ended and welcomes donation from all SYSU alumni and friends from all walks of life.
Prof. Huang Yao, Dean of School of Law, said that Duanmu Zheng Foundation is the first foundation that is named after a professor in the School of Law. Prof. Duanmu Zheng, who served as Vice-President of the Supreme People’s Court and Member of the Drafting Committee for the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, laid a solid foundation for the reopening of the Department of Law at SYSU in 1979. The Foundation will help expand the international academic exchanges in the School of Law.

Dr. Xie Rudong, Ms. Li Hanrong, Secretary General of SYSU Education Development Foundation, and Prof. Huang Yao signed the donation agreement respectively on behalf of the Council of Duanmu Zheng Foundation, SYSU Education Development Foundation, and the School of Law. Prof. Li Ping and Prof. Huang Yao presented certificate of acknowledgment and souvenir to the Council of Duanmu Zheng Foundation.
