On the morning of April 2, Xiamen-SYSU strategic cooperation seminar and signing ceremony was held on North Campus of SYSU. Wang Menghui, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee; Zang Jiebin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and Secretary-General of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee; Huang Qiang, Vice Mayor of Xiamen; and Guo Guirong, Vice Mayor of Xiamen, attended the event. SYSU participants included Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Wang Jianping, Executive Vice President of SYSU; Ji Hongbing, Director of Department of Local Services and Industry-University-Research Collaborations of Office of Scientific Research and Development; Xia Dan, Secretary of Faculty of Medical Sciences and Secretary of Zhongshan School of Medicine; Xiao Haipeng, Director of the Dean’s Office of Medical Education Affairs and Vice President of The First Affiliated Hospital; Yu Minbin, Secretary of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center; Ma Jun, Executive Deputy Director of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center; Miao Wei, Secretary of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital; and Wang Zongfang, Deputy Director of Bureau of Affiliated Hospitals Administration. The signing ceremony was presided over by Xia Lianghui, Assistant President of SYSU and Executive Deputy Director of Office of Scientific Research and Development.

At the seminar, Executive Vice President Wang Jianping introduced SYSU’s tradition and mission, the campuses, scientific research strengths, and affiliated hospitals. He said that Xiamen and SYSU will join hands to establish strategic cooperative relations in three fields including decision-making consulting service, science and technology, and medical services. He hoped that the two sides can promote industry-university-research collaboration through various forms and multiple channels, and deepen social services.
Secretary Wang Menghui introduced Xiamen’s history, characteristics, education and economic development. He said that the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and Xiamen Municipal People’s Government have proposed a vision of “two centennials”: build Xiamen into a model city of “Beautiful China” by the 100th anniversary of the CPC, and a model city to show the “Chinese dream” by the 100th anniversary of the PRC. He pointed out that although Xiamen has the conditions to achieve such a goal, it needs further improvement in medical services, science and technology innovation, etc. He affirmed the achievements of SYSU in promoting industry-university-research collaboration, and the contributions of Zhongshan School of Medicine to medical and health services. He hoped that the signing of the framework agreement will lay a solid foundation for further cooperation between the two sides in medicine and other fields.
On behalf of SYSU, Secretary Zheng Detao expressed thanks to the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and Xiamen Municipal People’s Government for their high attention to the signing ceremony. He said that SYSU and Xiamen has a good foundation for cooperation due to geographical proximity and frequent exchanges. The signing of the framework agreement will bring the cooperation between Xiamen and SYSU to a higher level, and further improve SYSU’s ability to serve local communities.

After the seminar, Vice Mayor Huang Qiang and Executive Vice President Wang Jianping signed the strategic cooperation framework agreement on behalf of Xiamen Municipal People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University respectively. Secretary Wang Menghui, Secretary Zheng Detao, Secretary-General Zang Jiebin, Vice Mayor Guo Guirong and Assistant President Xia Lianghui witnessed the signing ceremony.
