On the morning of November 19, a five-member delegation from University of Canberra headed by Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Frances Shannon, visited Sun Yat-sen University. Vice President Yan Guangmei met with the guests in Wing Sang Building on North Campus. Lin Huancai, Vice Dean of Guanghua School of Stomatology and Hospital of Stomatology, Wang Yan, Assistant Dean, and representatives from the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.

Vice President Yan Guangmei welcomed Deputy Vice Chancellor Frances Shannon and introduced campus construction and disciplinary strengths of SYSU, especially in medical sciences. He said that SYSU is at the frontier of China’s reform and opening-up, always upholding its principle of openness. SYSU encourages more international exchange on the part of faculty and students and hopes to build cooperative relations with more Australian universities. He looked forward to more collaborations between the two universities.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Frances Shannon introduced the disciplinary faculties, research fields and international development of the University of Canberra. She said that Chinese students accounted for a significant proportion of students at the University of Canberra and she hoped the University would attract more students from China.
The two sides also exchanged opinions on student exchange, faculty and staff mobility, joint educational program, and agreed on exploring cooperation in environmental sciences.
The University of Canberra was formerly known as the Canberra College of Advanced Education founded in 1967. It acquired the status of university in 1990, and is an emerging university in Australia and one of the comprehensive public universities recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It has four schools: Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Business, Government and Law, and Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics. Guanghua School of Stomatology and Hospital of Stomatology of SYSU has research cooperation with its Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics.
