On May 31, SYSU signed a cooperation framework agreement with Jieyang and Meizhou respectively to further strengthen government-industry-university-research collaboration and serve Guangdong’s innovative development.
In the morning, the signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation framework agreement between SYSU and Jieyang was held in Swasey Hall, SYSU. Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU, and Chen Dong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee and Mayor of Jieyang, signed the "Comprehensive Cooperation Framework Agreement between Jieyang Municipal People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University” on behalf of the two sides. Chen Lüping, Secretary of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Jieyang Municipal People’s Congress; Liu Guangming, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee, Secretary General of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee and Director of the Office of the CPC Jieyang Municipal Committee; Lin Lijiao, Deputy Mayor of Jieyang; Zeng Ruiru, Deputy Mayor of Jieyang; Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Wang Jianping, Executive Vice President of SYSU; Xia Lianghui, Assistant President of SYSU; and leaders of relevant departments of both sides attended and witnessed the signing ceremony.
In the afternoon, the signing ceremony for the cooperation framework agreement between SYSU and Meizhou was held in the VIP Lounge of SYSU. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, and Ding Wen, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Meizhou Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor of Meizhou, signed the “University-City Cooperation Framework Agreement between Meizhou Municipal People’s Government and Sun Yat-sen University” on behalf of the two sides. Xia Lianghui, Assistant President of SYSU; leaders of relevant departments of both sides and some distinguished guests attended and witnessed the signing ceremony.

SYSU and Jieyang will conduct cooperation in decision-making consultation, technology research and development, talent cultivation, medical services, social construction, cultural cooperation, ecological construction, and establish the city-university cooperation joint meeting system to coordinate and solve major issues in cooperation.
SYSU and Meizhou will have cooperation in the areas of talent cultivation and training, culture, planning, electronic commerce, biomedicine, science and technology, and will establish a university-city cooperation leadership group, consisting of principal leaders, leaders in charge and persons in charge of relevant departments from both sides, to coordinate and solve major issues in cooperation.
By now, SYSU has established comprehensive collaborations with 14 cities in Guangdong Province. What distinguishes these two agreements from the former ones is that the focus of cooperation has moved from the Pearl River Delta area to Jieyang in the eastern region and Meizhou in the northern region of Guangdong Province. The signing of the two agreements indicates that SYSU’s perspective of serving local development is constantly expanding and deepening, and by taking science and technology innovation as the core driving force, SYSU has made a big step forward on the way to serve Guangdong’s innovative regional development.
