The Awards Ceremony for the SYSU 2nd English Class Presentation contest was held on Guangzhou South Campus last Friday afternoon, hosted by Faculty of English Education and sponsored by SYSU Bio-Chem Technology Corporation LTD. Vice president Chen Chunsheng, representatives from Faculty of English Education and Academic Office, and nearly 400 students from four campuses attended the ceremony.
The competition started inthe last seminar. As a tradition of our English education, English classes will provide opportunities for every student to make a 20 minute group presentation about their class. At the beginning, the preliminary competition was held in classes while one group of presentation students of each class was recommended by the English teacher into the final competition. Then in the last two weeks of last December, final competition was held in each campus and the superior groups were chosen. In this year’s competition, we have 7 Outstanding Prizes, 25 First Prizes and 104 Second Prizes in total.
At the ceremony, three representative groups of Outstanding Prize winners gave their live presentations to the audience. The first group’s topic was “From Xiaonei to Renren”, talking about the development of a wide-spread website among our university students. The second group taught us how to make a “DIY Tour”, which was interesting and useful. The third group gave us a vivid performance showing the severe “Housing Problem” of the graduates.
After that, vice president Chen Chunsheng gave a speech. He praised the achievements of award winners and appreciated the endeavors of teachers from Faculty of English Education. At the end, winner representatives were awarded by vice president and leaders from the Faculty of English Education on the stage.
The competition provides students with an opportunity to design and carry out presentations, to improve their abilities of self-learning, team work, English expression and so on. It plays an important role in our English education.
