On the afternoon of June 12, the first issue of SYSU International Masters Frontiers Forum sponsored by Office of International Cooperation & Exchange was held on Zhuhai Campus. The forum invited Prof. Bernard Roizman, Member of National Academy of Sciences in the United States, as the speaker, and was chaired by Prof. Yan Guangmei, Vice President of SYSU. Prof. Ling Wenhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange; Mr. Lin Junhong, Deputy Secretary of Party Working Committee of Zhuhai Campus; Mr. Li Guangjun, Deputy Secretary of The Fifth Affiliated Hospital; and faculty and students from The Fifth Affiliated Hospital, School of Marine Sciences and School of International Studies, a total of nearly 300 people attended the forum.
Prof. Roizman gave a lecture entitled “The Long Voyage in Search of the Right Questions”, talking about his journey of scientific research in the field of herpes simplex viruses over four decades. He shared his experience in discovering, analyzing and solving problems as well as training talents. After the lecture, Prof. Roizman answered questions raised by faculty and students and took a photo with them.

Dr. Bernard Roizman is the Joseph Regenstein Distinguished Service Professor of Virology in the Departments of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology, The University of Chicago. He is Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Member of Institute of Medicine, Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Foreign member of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He has received many awards including the first annual ICN International Prize in Virology, J. Allyn Taylor International Prize in Medicine, and ASM-Abbot Lifetime Achievement Award, etc. He has made outstanding contribution to the study of herpes simplex viruses and molecular biology.
SYSU International Masters Frontiers Forum aims to build a platform for international academic exchanges, enhance face-to-face interactions with world-class scholars, and foster academic elites with international vision. After the successful launch of the first issue, the Forum will invite more world-renowned experts and scholars to give lectures and conduct scientific collaborations at SYSU.
