On the afternoon of December 20, the School of Foreign Languages (FLS) held the 2013 Award Ceremony for Excellent Service Award of Sun Yat-sen University and the First Dai Liuling Scholarship. Ms. Xu Kaishu, wife of late Professor Dai Liuling, and her sister Ms. Xu Kaijun were invited to the event. Presided over by Deputy Secretary Cao Xin, the ceremony was joined by Dean Chang Chenguang, Secretary Xu Dongli and Vice Dean Xu Aihong.
Secretary Xu Dongli announced the University’s decision to grant the 2013 Excellent Service Award of Sun Yat-sen University to eighteen FLS faculty and staff members, including Zhang Penggao, Liu Zhankun and Li Liangyu, who have served for over 35 years, and fifteen teachers who have served for over 30 years. Secretary Xu Dongli and Dean Chang Chengguang presented the plaques to the recipients.
The 2013 Award Ceremony for Excellent Service Award
Professor Ou Hong delivered a speech on behalf of the awarded teachers. He admired Professor Dai Liuling’s life-long excellent service to foreign language education and SYSU. He also appreciated the effort made by Professor Dai’s wife and family to set up the Scholarship. Professor Ou Hong said that he would learn from Professor Dai Liuling and continue to dedicate himself to the School and the University.
Ms. Xu Kaishu, who is in her 90s, addressed the ceremony. She conveyed her expectation and encouragement for FLS teachers and students. Together with her sister, she then presented the certificates to the awarded students. Bai Yang, a senior student from the Department of English, shared her excitement of winning the scholarship and her determination to carry forward the academic tradition and strive for further achievement.
The Award Ceremony for The First Dai Liuling Scholarship
Dean Chang Chenguang made closing remarks. On behalf of FLS, he extended congratulations to all awarded members and special thanks to Ms. Xu Kaishu and Ms. Xu Kaijun. He said that FLS would make good use of the donations and he hoped that more alumni would contribute to the Dai Liuling Scholarship.
Dai Liuling Grant was established in 2005, and it is renamed as Dai Liuling Scholarship in 2013 with the consent of Professor Dai Liuling’s family. The First Dai Liuling Scholarship is awarded to 10 students.
