From August 16 to 22, the Chinese Bridge delegation consisting of 20 primary, secondary and senior high schools’ principals from Cambodia visited SYSU. This visit to China was hosted by Hanban as this year is the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. And it was organized by the Base for International Chinese Teaching Materials Development & Teacher Training (CTM) and the School of Chinese as a Second Language (SCSL) at SYSU.
During the one-week visit, the principles participated in rich and colorful activities, such as observing live Chinese classes, listening to academic lectures, visiting Guangzhou No.6 Middle School, experiencing Chinese culture, and etc. They communicated effectively with the teachers, and acquired a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China.

The closing ceremony was held on the afternoon of August 21. Professor Zhou Xiaobing, Director of CTM and Dean of SCSL, and Professor Wen Wushao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, attended the ceremony.
Dr. Chea Munyrith, leader of the delegation and dean of the Confucius Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, introduced the Chinese courses at the institute, as well as the current status of Chinese teaching at local schools in Cambodia.
Professor Zhou Xiaobing and Professor Wen Wushao introduced that more than 13,000 international students, including 14 Cambodian students, have studied Chinese at SCSL so far. And 6 candidates of Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages have been to Cambodia to teach Chinese as volunteers.
The two sides discussed various collaborative approaches, including Confucius Institute Scholarship Program, Overseas Chinese Teacher Training Program, and etc, with the aim to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between SYSU and schools in Cambodia.
They believe that the Chinese Bridge between Guangzhou and Phnom Penh will not only promote the Chinese teaching in Cambodia, but also enhance the cultural communication between the people in China and Cambodia.
