According to information from the Annual Members’ Meeting of Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China(ISTIC), which was held in Beijing in Dec. 2011, the Natural Science Edition and Medical Science Edition of Journal of SYSU were selected as the Second China Excellent Technical Journals. This is the second time the two editions have been awarded since their first selection in 2008.
The selection of China Excellent Technical Journals was an important measure approved by Ministry of Science and Technology to boost the subject of “Tactical Research in Chinese Excellent Technical Journals”, to improve the overall level of Chinese technical journals, to strengthen their international competitiveness, to establish a platform for excellent technical journal databases, to strengthen the resources and sustainable development of technical journals in China.
The criteria for selecting China Excellent Technical Journals consist of quantity and quality, while quantity is the main criteria and quality is the auxiliary. The selection period lasts three years.
Among the selected 300 China Excellent Technical Journals in 2011, there are 160 ones ranking top three in terms of general assessment, 126 ranking top three in terms of influence, and 130 ranking top three in terms of total citations. Compared with the 300 journals selected in 2008, main academic indices increased moderately, among them the average total citations rose from 1880 to 2365, influence rose from 0.789 to 0.855, the ratio of funded papers rose from 0.68 to 0.73, the average rate of cited articles rose from 16 to 19 while the cited rate kept at 0.85
Besides, Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology published the selection of the Fourth Guangdong Excellent Technical Journals at the end of Nov. 2011. Both the Natural Science Edition and Medical Science Edition of Journal of SYSU won the first prize.
