The "2010 New Media Summit" was held on the east campus of SYSU on May, 26th. Huang Daren, President of SYSU attended the forum and gave address. More than 20 leaders of media field and scholars from higher institutes of China had presented at the forum. This forum was presided over by Hu Shuli, Dean of the School of Communication and Design and editor in chief of new media.
Experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Beijing University, Sun Yat-sen University and other college and leaders of Sina, IDG (China), Computer World Media Group, FT Chinese network, Southern Metropolis Daily had discussion of common concern and shared experiences from related fields.
Hu Shuli said that, “the integration of media technology, traditional media and new media industry will bring a series of opportunities and challenges, including new media in the construction process will play an important role in China. China's media industry and academia need to communicate and interact more fully to explore and share media in the exploration and practice of transformation, while also need to combine education and new media to promote the common progress of social media."
At the forum, Wang Jin, Visit-professor of MIT Comparative Media Studies and Chinese culture and director of New Media Operations Lab provided a speech "Business 2.0 and common 2.0 " and shared the latest research progress from the academic perspective. The guests also discussed related issues on the "new trends and opportunities for the development of new media" and the "new media and the media, economic, social and cultural transformation". On the 27th, deans from respective universities of china held a seminar on " Journalism and Communication Education in a new media era ", addressing the integrations and development of education and new media through two major aspects, “talent needs in a new media era”, and " theory of education in a new media era”.
