In the summer of 2007, T’ai lake, one of 5 famous fresh lakes in China, was taken over by the blue-green algae, harshening the lives of those people who depended on the lake water for living, and endangering other species as well.
In the last few months, the Southwest China was suffering a rare and terrible drought in a-hundred-year return period, which affected half of the Chinese citizens.
What happened around us is a wake- up call to tell us that water protection is in urgency because the precious water resource is polluted day by day at an unimaginable speed.
Not long ago, “隱湖" is still my favorite scene because we can listen to the green water waving, enjoy the golden sparks on the surface under the warm sunshine and take a dizzy nap in the hug of the gentle wind. What’s more, it is the Disney Land full of vigor, where kinds of fishes, birds and even turtles have their happy life. With all these gorgeous scenes, we are willing to be here to study in the morning, passers-by take a nap on the stone bench in the tree shade during the noon break and lovers continue their love stories around the lake.
If the description above is the passport to the wonderland, I have to be deeply sorry to admit that pollution will be the tomb and what we can see now will be Alice’s epitaph.
What we can see is, chlorella occupying our lake is polluting our campus’s wonderland.
What we can see is, with the water line going down day by day, the construction waste, which is thrown down by the construction team, finally shows the evil of its soul.
What we can see is, we are going to hardly smell the breath of the fresh creature around or in the lake, and people are no longer willing to make a stop because nothing is worthwhile.
Spotting all these heart-breaking scenes, we have to do something to protect the lake, or it will extinct sooner or later.
What can we do to save the lake which we benefit from a lot?
What can we do to save the fishes, birds and turtles that have been settled down for a long time?
What can we do to save the place which is worthwhile to remember when we leave Zhuhai?
Now, we can’t go back and the result would not change even if we pray for thousands of times. The only and unavoidable thing that we should do immediately is to change our deviated behavior which generated the pollution.
We should change the way we pour our domestic sewage into the lake directly before taking certain purifying procedures.
We should change the way we process the construction waste which should be dealt with in scientific method.
We should change the way we report and supervise, so that pollution will be sentenced to death when it is born.
Nowadays, pollution spreads all over the world and the pure land become lesser and lesser. We, human beings have to do something to prove that we are not inept in protecting our home and we are determined to make our home more beautiful and pleasant. Let’s stand up and unite our hands to fight against the pollution together!
